I started JW Underwood Construction in Highlands, North Carolina, eight years ago after working in the custom home building and renovation business for several years with my father, a skilled builder who constructed houses on and off throughout my childhood. I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1992 with a degree in Agricultural Economics and Business. Before turning to homebuilding, I worked within the poultry industry, where I was responsible for $30 million in poultry industry sales. I now live in Highlands with my wife, Mandy, of 13 years and my two sons, Charlie and George. I currently serve on the Town of Highlands Zoning Board after serving on its Planning Board from 2009 to 2011. I’ve enjoyed my role as leader of a local Boy Scout troupe for the past five years, and am proud to serve as junior warden of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, where I’ve maintained the building and grounds on a daily basis for the past three years.
