I’ve been building custom dream homes and renovations of exceptional value and quality in North Carolina and North Georgia for more than a decade. My years of experience as a licensed homebuilder and general contractor has taught me there is no substitution for personal accountability backed by a mastery of the craft and a dedication to timely and professional service.
When you choose to work with me, you will benefit from the personal attention and oversight I give to each job. I work with a loyal base of qualified craftsman and skilled professionals with specialties in woodworking, rock work, iron work, siding, landscaping, roofing and more. All construction meets North Carolina Building Code. My excellent ongoing relationships with vendors allows me to provide you with competitive pricing for the quality materials and finishes you desire such as native hardwoods, stone siding and the latest in appliances and styles.
Staying small means I can keep my overhead low and pass on these savings to my customers. It also means I can provide each custom built home with the hands-on attention it requires. I visit each job site daily. I take my time to understand your plans and vision. I work closely with you to determine the very best solutions, the greatest functionality and the material finishes that make each home as unique as the owner itself. I started JW Underwood Construction in Highlands, North Carolina, eight years ago after working in the custom home building and renovation business for several years with my father, a skilled builder who constructed houses on and off throughout my childhood. I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1992 with a degree in Agricultural Economics and Business. Before turning to homebuilding, I worked within the poultry industry, where I was responsible for $30 million in poultry industry sales. I now live in Highlands with my wife, Mandy, of 13 years and my two sons, Charlie and George. I currently serve on the Town of Highlands Zoning Board after serving on its Planning Board from 2009 to 2011. I’ve enjoyed my role as leader of a local Boy Scout troupe for the past five years, and am proud to serve as junior warden of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, where I’ve maintained the building and grounds on a daily basis for the past three years.
